Nobody Knows: Voices (Un)Muted

“We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of  mutuality." – Martin Luther King Jr.

Nobody Knows: Voices UnMuted is a student-driven collaborative project which allows for marginalized communities’ voices to be heard. Faculty will work with students as mentors, rather than “teachers.”  Students from several disciplines in the arts including, music, dance, creative writing, and cinema will collaborate on crafting stories that address the trials and tribulations of marginalized communities (LGBTQ+, Asian Hate, Black Lives Matter, Latinx/Hispanic, Native Americans, Muslim, etc.)

In a world of constant change, it is important that students be aware of those changes and interrogate how the arts can help create a world where differences are celebrated rather than tolerated. Oftentimes, those who are classified as “others” don’t have an opportunity to have their voices amplified. This collaborative project provides a platform for artistic expression.

Another mission of this collaborative project is to unleash the creative possibilities and to arm the students with information on how to mount and sustain careers in the arts or any other endeavor. In addition to the artistic component, students will also learn the business and entrepreneurial aspects of the artistic landscape.
